The 46
Dylan Tellesen: The man, the girth, the mission.
Feeling a wee bit uninspired? Are you down with the sickness? Try applying a thick coat of lotion 46 on your sensitive areas. I admit being a bit reluctant to venture out of my saftey zone of downtown Chico into unfamiliar territory. I was afraid of what I might find, perhaps a very talented artist holding it down in a way all his own. Many us us have known about Dylan Tellesen through the local art circuit, but how can we actually come to know an artist? Sure, we could take a bath with him and talk politics, but first I recommend experiencing an artist in their natural environment, also known as their studio.

Loft The studio itself is a very crucial artist tool just like a brush or pen. It sets the stage for an artist to perform. Consider it an extension of the artist's own creative mind. I couldn't help but find some interesting connections between Dylan's studio and his artwork. There is a solid, thick loft creating a second floor of the warehouse space at The 46 that Dylan and friends had built. The remaining space was transformed with an experimental mural that blended and crossed over all the structural boundaries of the space. Dylan's artwork very much appears rooted in a strong foundation of realism and familiar pattern recognition of human form, while at the same time deconstructs the remaining environment to a juicy vibrating color soup. Both disparate elements help define each other: realism becomes hyperreal in the reflection of the maelstrom and vice versa. It is pure genius, ha haha!
Keep an eye on The 46, it is coming for you.

"Art, or the graphic translation of a culture, is shaped by the way space is perceived. Electric circuitry is recreating in us the multidimensional space orientation of the primitive."
