Last Saturday was the the seventh day of the seventh month of the seventh year of this century, which pretty much made it the coolest day of the year. In celebration of this momentous day the 1078 threw a dance party and in celebration of the dance party Dylan and Stephen created 'missing and wanted', a collection of individual and collaborative art pieces. If 666 is the mark of the beast then 777 is the mark of the sexy beast, and by sexy beast I am of course referring to Dylan Tellesen and Stephen Beebe. front of 1078front of 1078 The first thing that caught my eye was the giant beaver owl stork guarding his green dam of appliances; the beast stands triumphantly and proud over its home, but it will relinquish one green gem to each person who becomes a member of the 1078 during the next month. On the opposing wall is a massive but small collaborative painting made of multiple panels, one of which will be raffled off to a lucky person who becomes a gallery member at the fifty dollar or above level. I then made my way to the back of the room to meet and talk to Stephen and Dylan. I was asked to please take a number and stand in line with the other seventy billion people who were trying to talk to the artist. D and S told me of the first time they crossed paths. DYLAN “I was giving free foot rubs to the art walk people one Saturday afternoon, then I looked up and noticed smoke coming from the orphanage.” STEPHEN “I was on the opposite side of the orphanage healing sick kittens with Reiki, thats when I noticed the smoke.” D “I judo chopped the front door into splinters and could hear the screams coming from upstairs, the flames were consuming the staircase, but I had no choice, I ran upstairs and as I did the stairs collapsed.” S “I ran in just as the stairs were falling, I thought I was too late, but then I remembered that I had a kombucha in my back pocket. I drank it in one sip and used the super strength that it gave me to jump to the second floor like grasshopper.” D “I heard something land behind me, that was the first time I saw Stephen.” S “We shook hands, and it was love at first sight.” D “So we rescued the kids and stuff, blah blah blah.” S “We saved the kids, that was cool and all, but talking to Dylan afterwards was something I will never forget.” D “ We were so covered in soot and ash that when we finally walked away from the building that we were leaning against, we noticed these beautiful patterns and designs on the wall. I decided right then to be an artist. I asked Stephen to be an artist with me and change the world.” S “I asked if we could smoke a bowl first while I thought about it, but it only took seven seconds to make the decision.” look at all these happy people, and the dance party hasn't even startedlook at all these happy people, and the dance party hasn't even started greengreen missing wantedmissing wanted the wantedthe wanted north wall of beebenorth wall of beebe south wall of beebesouth wall of beebe Dylan and Stephen are super duper pals who share a studio and the current exhibition at the 1078 gallery.
