The Kent Bellows Studio & Center for Visual Arts, a non-profit arts organization based in Omaha, encourages young artists to reach their full potential through creative expression in a professional artist mentoring context. We service anywhere from 30-40 youth artists every spring, summer and fall and house 8-10 local professional artist mentors.

Scale the Fence

This escaping student caught my eye at Chico High. Looks like another work for our Who Dunnit? folder. Reminds me of Mark Jenkins.

Do you ever get lonely? Well....keep yourself company with a limited edition wood burned totem! Painstakingly designed and masterfully engraved, these totems are powerful contemporary relics thriving with goodness and multidimensional powers. Get your hands on any one of six different totems for $75! Hungry for more? Well....chow down on any one of ten wood burned faces! Mmmm.

Just a Spoon?

Submitted by Weston on February 20, 2009, 10:22pm. |

Every semester I ask all my students to draw a spoon on an index card. Why a spoon you say? Well, I had a theory a while back that advances in digital image making tools like 3d modeling and motion graphics could change the way we visualize images in our minds. If you ask a person to draw a cow they would likely draw a simple profile shot similar to the animal cards we see as kids. Profile shots can be the quickest way to identify something, and they seem to be the most common. Two dimensional image making has ruled the world for ages, but recently computer software has changed the way we create imagery. We are forced to think about objects in three dimensions, that is x,y,& z. Could this change the way we imagine? Spoons are pretty sterile and basic, and generally everyone has seen one. I have posted a bunch for you to look at. You will notice that one, my theory is rubbish, and two that a spoon is not just a spoon. Some are mysterious, some technical, some conceptual, some strong, some soft, some humorous, some ridiculous, some quiet, some loud, some sexy, and some everywhere in between.

Sketch Theatre

Just got this Sketch Theatre email from Munk One, a professional artist and illustrator that graced the streets of Chico at one time. This video shows a timelapse sketchbook drawing by the man himself. Check out his website also, good stuff.
