CAMMIES (Chico Area Music Awards) was sweet! This year Commonpath.org will teamed up with Chico News & Review to create the best Cammies ever. If you are a band/artist nominated by the Cammies in any genre you can create an account on Commonpath with web links, audio files, picts, movies, contact info, and more. From your Commonpath.org profile, your audience can get all the information and inspiration required to vote for you in the Cammies. Congratulations to the 2008 CAMMIES nominees: The five CAMMIES nominees in the 12 genre categories were chosen by a 62-member selection committee made up of local musicians, promoters, bookers, soundpersons, DJs, journalists and music fans, and in the coming months, the public will vote at www.newsreview.com/cammies for their faves in the 12 categories: Folk/Acoustic, Country/Bluegrass, Rap-Hip-hop, Electronic, Jazz, Blues, Funk/R&B/Jam, World/Celtic/Reggae, Rock, Hard Rock/Metal, Punk, Indie/Experimental. The winners in each category (plus more than a dozen Critics’ Choice Awards) will be announced at the big CAMMIES awards show—this year at the historic El Rey Theatre on Thurs., May 1. The CN&R will again be working with the nominated bands and local venues (Nick’s Night Club, LaSalles, Café Coda, Lost on Main, 33 Steaks, The Crux and more) to put on a dozen separate genre showcases during March and April. Look for CAMMIES supplements in the CN&R in advance of the showcases mini features on the nominated bands and more info on the showcases. The CAMMIES is the younger sibling of the Sacramento News & Review’s 16-year-old SAMMIES celebration and is entering its third year of helping to illuminate the Chico area’s music scene. The CN&R is more pumped than ever start this party, and this year we’re especially motivated to work very closely with all of the musicians to make an authentic Chico experience.
