Somewhere in the Black Hills...
Been MIA dealing with some major life plate shifting--moving homes (2x), office (1x), divorce (1x-heh, duh), traveling for business, re-connecting with not-so long lost family...been weird. Haven't had space or time to do ant art and it's starting to wear on me but I have arranged a trip to LACMA next month to see the Dali Paintings and Film exhibit which I hope will be inspiring.
Just returned late last night from a road trip with my brother. Flew to his place in San Diego and drove from there to South Dakota. Since the only medium I have access to at the moment is digital photography, I have been working on some pics I took of my grandmother's farm. It's a very sweet, pretty old farm with old barns and out buildings. I hadn't been there for over twelve years but, though a little more dilapidated, it looked pretty much how I remembered it.
House Hunting
O.K--so this has almost nothing to do with art--well, absolutely nothing, in fact, but it occurred to me that maybe this would be a good place to put this out there just in case...
My husband and I are going through a trail separation and I am searching for a temporary, inexpensive room to rent for the summer starting like, um, now would be good. I would definitely prefer some place downtown--within walking distance from the bars (yeah--I know, I should quit) but it would be really swell and therapeutic for me to live with other artists as well...so if anyone has/knows of a summer sublet contact me please.
My Brother and My Idea...Med/science person needed
O.K.--so if this is totally sick--well, I just don't really give a shit...
My brother and I were discussing the whole stupidity of the abortion thing--why the hell are we still having this discussion and why are old white men so deeply involved? Shouldn't these guys be out earning money to support all these babies they want to bring into the world instead of harassing me when I go to get a pap at Planned Parenthood? I want to see some crying women who've done it and now want to slit their wrists...maybe that would convince me...but some old wanker with a confederate tee on is just not going to do anything more than piss me off. I don't care what kind of carnage is on his sign. I could do the same for animal rights--stand right next to him with an equally disturbing sign, but he probably eats meat and hopes to buy his wife a fur one day after they move out of the trailer park... (Wait that gives me an idea...)
Honesty Pt. 1...(Don't ya just love Billy Joel--too young ehh)
Soooo-Weston asked me to help with the site mainly because I started out as an English major got bored due to the work being too easy and ended up an art major for the challenge which is where we met. (How's that for a bad sentence!) Now if you know Weston and think he's all straight-laced, you're wrong. For some reason he at least claimed to like my work and that's how it all started--I still go over that in my head because he definitely kicks my ass...but he was just a kid back then to give him proper credit...
Semi-review of the Secret Secret Show
The Crux Secret Secret Show was incredible. Had I know how much work went in to this I would have walked from Northern Chico--rain and all--to be there on time. Due to transportation problems I was about 40 minutes late...and soaking wet. I'm still a little bit of the old school artist too, admittedly--stuck in that idealist universe where things don't start until your cocktail is finished but...
Europa, Europa
Europe was full of Europeans--and alot of Americans--so I guess you're all going to Italy? Nice choice. I wonder where all the Italians live though...
The Ufizzi is truly everything it claims to be--every piece in there is a masterpiece. So nothing in particular is highlighted. Basically every piece you saw in your Renaissance art course is there. If you are a hyper-sensitive art-lover and plan to go, bring tissue--and make a reservation ahead of time. I waited an hour and a half with a reservation then sobbed with joy for about 4 to 5 hours. Also if you want to see the David at the Acadamie of art--make a reservation--probably the same situation but I didn't have one and the line was wrapped around the block and not moving one bit. So I didn't get to see the David but I did get to see two of the three Michangelo Pietas (including the most famous located in the Vatican) and they were so amazing. Basically I cried everyday for three weeks straight but for joy over art rather than sorrow over my pathetic life for a change which is, in my humble opinion, a more than acceptable/welcome substitution.
Going to Europe
I am new to this site but I hope to get involved very quickly here.
I am headed off for London, Paris, Florence and Rome with my new digital SLR sooooo...hopefully by this time next month I'll have a family slide show--no wait--some kick ass photes to share with ya'll.
I also tend to write alot so you'll probably get some long-winded story about my sorry life everytime you come here--Wait...don't go...come back Shane!!! Fortunately I like to slag myself alot so maybe it will stay amusing for you.
